My mother-in-law

9 years ago tonight, my mother-in-law, passed away of lung cancer in her hospital bed. Funny thing...she didn't smoke. Doctor guessed it was the asbestos in the sweatshop she worked at. Who knows?

Life would be so different for me if my mother-in-law was still alive. She would have helped out a lot I'm sure. My wife who works full-time comes home and does a lot. I pitch in where I can...just wished the stress my wife gets from work would not be so bad....just wished that I was a cook or even halfway decent (and fast) cook to ease the pressure from my wife. If my mother-in-law was still here, I'm sure she would've pitched in and cook dinner for my wife and kids.

My uncle told me that Buddhists believe cancer is a karmic disease. If that is the case, I hope my mother-in-law in her next lifetime won't have to suffer as much as she did in her short time here in this lifetime. Hopefully she has repaid her karmic debt. She was 52. She discovered she had terminal cancer too late. She suffered for a little over 2 years. My wife and I married in 1996, after a 5-6 courtship if you will, we married. My wife was pregant and I'm glad my mother-in-law found out. She was happy and looking forward to a new grandchild. She passed away while my wife was ~6 mos pregnant. One of the happiest times I've seen her very happy was on our wedding day.

This post is for you Mom.
