My 400th Post! on 12/21/12 Maya Calendar - End of the World?!?!

Despite the weather forecast, if you are reading this post that means the End of the World according to the ancient Maya calendar didn't happen yet! WOOHOO!

Quick! Read the rest of this entry ... who knows when the world win end?!?! LOL

This is my 400th post! I didn't post all week, waiting to post on 12/21/12 for my 400th. I knew about my 100th post, but somehow lost track of my 200th and 300th post. Some thoughts for my 400th after this brief musical interlude... bet you can guess what song it will be...

LOL now that I've gotten that out of my system, ...

My friend Joe Silvia wrote an article on the Mayans and their calendar that may be of interest, that is, if you have not already read up on it. I don't know how many TV shows, movies, books, let alone articles covered this subject, but check out Joe's article:

The Maya Calendar, 2012 and Pop Culture by Joe Silvia

Back to my 400th post...

As the year nears its end, that is if it's not Armageddon tomorrow, as some say due to the Maya calendar ending, I reflect back on my site/blog and the Martial Arts "world" or what the Chinese call "Jiang Hu".

Deaths

It was a rough year for the MA world as it lost many luminaries/legends. The JKD community lost not one, not two, not even three... they lost:

  • Jerry Poteet
  • Howard Williams
  • Jesse Glover
  • Joe Lewis
  • Bob Bremer

The Boxing circle lost Emmanuel Steward and Hector "Macho" Camacho.

The Japanese Martial Arts lost Masayuki Shimabukuro and Ron Duncan.

I lost 2 coworkers and another coworker lost his 12 year old son. The heartfelt loss was my coworker of 5 years who sat behind me a few seats over was diagnosed with cancer on Father's Day this year and passed away in November. He was one year older than me, 48, and is survived by his wife of 20+ years, 18 year old son, 15 year old daughter and 12 year old son. I have 3 kids too and my kids are closer in age to his 2 younger children. Really gets you back into the here and now and realizing Life can be short and make your time count.

RIP

Site/Blog/Writing

I am in the process of researching various areas of the Martial Arts and Self Defense and trying my hand at writing articles. I'm not a writer, so I struggle with writer's block as well as putting down coherent thoughts. A good friend recommended sometime ago to me a book he found awesome, Steven Pressfield's The War of Art. It's a great book, and some of it is sinking in. Resistance is the Enemy. I must overcome this Enemy and write, write, write. I have a few articles in various stages. When they are ready, I will post them.

I continue to scour for what I believe to be good useful info in one's journey in the martial arts and life... at least it definitely is useful to me. I share what I come across be it links, quotes, passages from a book/article or various postings from the forums.

I love making GIF's, check out some of my handiwork here. It gets Zen-ful for me when I'm making GIF's as time permits.

I've also added an Email Subscription option. You can subscribe via the Sidebar to your right... you see that figure with the envelope - please input your email addy there. When I have a new entry, it will be delivered to your Inbox.

Movies and TV

Really loving Elementary and Arrow so far. Behind in watching The Walking Dead. One movie that I rave about and recommend to action movie fans is The Raid:  Redemption. In recent memory, it was like a breath of fresh air. So much goodness in it.

My Sojourn of Septillion Steps

Hurricane Sandy aka Superstorm Sandy destroyed parts of New York and New Jersey. It also afforded scammers a chance to well go out and pry their craft. I posted about an incident that happened to me that had a few of what Gavin de Becker calls "Pre-Incident Indicators" here.

First 6 months of this year, I was disciplined and starting training some Yiquan (aka Yichuan/I Quan/I Chuan). Just sticking with the basics of Zhan Zhuang for now. Will post some of my experiences in future entries. Then summer rolled around and got busy with family and laxed off a bit sadly. As the New Year approaches, will get back into it seriously.

On and off, I've been 'shadowfighting' (shadowboxing is just punching, I'm shadowfighting with a stick, a knife, empty hands, working my HEK, kicks and Fence, etc).

OK, Armageddon, show me what you got:

BRING IT!!
