Introduction
It's only fitting to review Olivier Gruner's debut movie on his birthday.
A graduate student and martial-arts expert rents a room in a house owned by a single mother who lives there with her son. A local street gang is trying to recruit the son, but the new tenant tries to help the boy's mother keep him out of the gang. When they learn of this, they target both the mother and her new tenant.
My review
This movie, like most action movies, won't win any critics over for the story or acting. Most action movies' plots/acting is just a warmup jacket meant to be taken off so the shirt underneath can be seen. The shirt in this case are the action/fight scenes.
The early 1990's Hollywood action movie stars list is a veritable Who's Who with the likes of Jean-Claude Van Damme, Steven Seagal, Chuck Norris, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Sylvester Stallone and countless more. Gruner broke into the scene with Angel Town. He was a former World Champion kickboxer and once the action starts, Gruner shows off his kicking skills. A beauty to watch his grace and speed in his kicks. Angel Town is definitely worth a watch for Gruner's kicking. I will be posting some animated GIF's of Gruner in action in the near future.
Enjoy!
Happy 53rd Olivier Gruner! Many many more birthdays to come!!
