Knife Crime caught on CCTV in the UK

This video originally aired on UK TV on January 20, 2009. My sincerest condolences to the Pollen family.

Do not watch this if you are squeamish. This video shows the realities of self-defense as well as the reality of the knife.

Video of a horrific and fatal stabbing that was thought to be a valuable lesson for anyone wanting to learn knife defence. How would your instruction help you deal with this?

Video is from a tv show special called "STABBED, The truth about knife crime" A BBC1 UK production.

As the show is not in circulation anymore Sensei Simon felt it was needed to share this video.

My Thoughts

All the self-defense training in the world will be for naught if you are not environmentally aware. Mr. Pollen and his friend was outside of a nightclub chatting when the the three BG's approached. Mr. Pollen and his friend Mr. Griffith were caught unaware and they got sucker punched -- the attack unprovoked. Following up with another punch, verbal abuse and then the quick stabbing all within the span of 40 seconds. Read that again... in less than 1 minute, the violence and stabbings occurred. Mr. Griffith stabbed 3x survived but Mr. Pollen with only 1 stab did not.

Also for your consideration is the 3 S's Rule (Avoid Stupid people, in Stupid places, doing Stupid things - sometimes called the 4 S's Rule where the 4th S is 'at Stupid times' meaning late in the evening into early morning). Are you not allowed to have fun and visit a nightclub? That is your decision. Did anyone overindulge in alcohol? Or perhaps partook of mind-altering substances? Mr. Pollen and Mr. Griffith could've left the nightclub area. They could've been environmentally aware. Lots of could of's.

There are many lessons to be learned from this tragedy. Whatever the case may be only you are responsible for your own safety. Be mindful there are predators out there who, without second thought, would do what transpired on that fateful night.

Also of interest perhaps is the video below which I posted back in March of this year. It is very graphic and not for the squeamish.

Be safe!
