I had an epic project planned for this most special of dates but didn't finish it in time sadly. I wanted to take a moment to recognize the birthday of a special and popular MMA fighter. Today would've been the 43rd birthday of Evan Tanner.

My friend Joe Silvia posted the following to my Facebook regarding his meeting with Evan Tanner:
"Man. Evan was an awesome fighter that struggled with some demons - which made him so human.
A little anecdote: At UFC 45 I was walking around taking pictures with fighters and getting autographs. If you've gone to a live event, you know that since the fighters who are on the card are in the locker rooms fighting nerves, napping, listening to music, etc. So they have about a dozen or more fighters who aren't fighting on the card assembled in the lobbies and stuff to meet fans.
Well, I've been to about 5 UFC events and a bunch of local events. I have friends who have been to dozens. Not ONCE have I heard of a fighter who was an hour away from fghting, walk around to meet fans.
Except, Evan. Friendly, warm, talkative. He was supposed to fight Baroni. People laugh at Baroni today, but back then he was a KILLER. I felt bad for this friendly guy who was about to get destroyed by Baroni who was knocking everyone out.
The rest is history. :)
