Inktober Day 12's picture focuses on the late Bob Kasper's 'palm push to strong-side shoulder'. Kasper formalized his knifefighting studies and called it "Kni-Com".
My previous drawings/notes on Bob Kasper's Kni-Com in case you missed them:
- Inktober Day #4 - Bob Kasper's/Kni-com's knifefighting stance
- Inktober Day #5 - Bob Kasper's/Kni-Com's "Passata Sotto"

- Inktober Day #17 - Bob Kasper's 5th Principle of Knifefighting - "Stay in the box."
Bob Kasper's "Sting of the Scorpion" (2009) - page 24
"'Bob' uses a palm push on 'BG''s strong side to unbalance him and present a clear target of opportunity. The knife is held in a reverse grip to enable a strong-side downward push."
MY COMMENTS/NOTES
- Note the palm push is to the BG's side that has his knife. In the absence of an exposed sidearm, this is presumed to be his "dominant" side and not his "complementary" side.
- Imagine the body is surrounded by a clock on the horizontal plane. 12 o'clock is in front of you, 6 o'clock is behind you, 9 o'clock is the left side of your body and 3 o'clock is the right side of your body. If a righty is armed with both a firearm and a knife, their general carry positions would be sidearm at 3 o'clock and knife at 9 o'clock. I realize some may carry their knife anywhere between 9 o'clock to 12 o'clock.
- Note that the push moves the BG's knife away from you creating a bit more distance and reactionary gap.
- As one pushes, one should deploy their own knife.
- I like to use "dominant" instead of "strong" and "complementary" instead of "weak". Just framing things positively.
