My 9th picture for Inktober is posted 1 day late :( Not easy to draw a picture a day it seems for me LOL
"Knifefighting: A Practical Course" (1993) by Michael Janich
Pages 15-18
- Lay the handle of the knife across your palm.
- Curl the last 3 fingers of your hand tightly around the base of the handle. This is the focus of pressure for the grip and anchors the handle securely to your palm.
- Curl the index finger lightly around the handle and extend your thumb parallel to the blade.
ADVANTAGES OVER SABER GRIP
- Saber grip as the thumb ride along the spine of the knife
- With the focus of the grip on the last 3 fingers, this increases the area of your hand that is firmly in contact with the handle and anchors it securely into the palm.
- Shock of a hard strike is absorbed by the meaty flesh of the palm which prevents injury and maintains control of the knife.
- Increased contact area ensures hand will not slide down toward the blade during a powerful thrust.
- Natural angle of the wrist provides:
- wrist absorbs shock of strikes without injury
- deeper cuts
- The thumb acts as a pointer to lead the knife to its target.
NOTE: to ensure control of the knife and prevent thumb injury, curl thumb the instant contact with target is made.
